Darryl is a Box & Charnock apprentice electrician working at Durkan’s prestigious new development overlooking the Thames in Greenwich, Caledonian Wharf.
Darryl original began his career as a trainee car mechanic but soon realised that it was unlikely to give him regular employment with little career progression, So Darryl joined Box & Charnock in 2014 to gain some general work experience before applying for an apprenticeship earlier this year.
“I was living in rural Notinghamshire training to become a car mechanic and I realised that it wouldn’t give me the type of opportunities that I wanted for myself. It really was a bit of a dead end job. So I relocated to stay with family in Kent in order to take up the job offer with Box & Charnock,” said Darryl.
It was a smart move on Darryl’s part. “I enjoy the job and I’m learning all the time what is basically a skill for life. As long as I work hard and pass the exams, I will never be out of work.”
“I’m currently working on all sorts of things including power and data cables, door entry systems, fibre optic and security systems. As well as working on site, Darryl attends the Medway City College where he learns the theory and health and safety side of being an electrician.
Although Darryl still has a passion for cars, they are now very much just a hobby, alongside football and socialising.
