“Being a good people person is essential for the job” says Tom

A new assistant quantity surveyor joins Box & Charnock

Tom joined the company in September 2016 as an assistant quantity surveyor working with the Operations team in London.

Originally from southern Ireland but now living in Essex, Tom spends his day at key sites across the capital resolving the type of issues that working on projects of the scale of Woodberry Down and Royal Waterside can create.   There may be discrepancies in the site drawings which means extra materials are needed or extra labour required and part of Tom’s job is to assess the financial implications and implement any necessary changes.

“I think good communication skills are an essential part of the job,” said Tom. “We have a lot of regular contact with the guys on site so being a ‘people person’ and being able to communicate well is important, as is sorting out any pay role issues which is another part of the job.”

Tom is currently on a Pathways training programme and may consider returning to college at a later date to obtain the additional qualifications he may need in order to further progress his career.

Outside work Tom is a keen football fan, being a Spurs supporter, and also enjoys keeping fit at the gym and Carp fishing.
