New trainee assistant estimator joins Box & Charnock
Before joining Box & Charnock, Jacob spent two years at Bedford College building up his technical knowledge and practical skills by completing a Level 1 and 2 plumbing qualification.
“After I qualified I found it really hard to find a suitable apprenticeship so I decided to continue my college education for another 2 years and take a Foundation Degree in Building Services and Sustainability which I successfully finished in June 2016,” explained Jacob.
Newly qualified, Jacob saw the vacancy for an Assistant Estimator for Box & Charnock online and within a week had been offered the job.
“I am part of the pre-construction team and I am learning the ropes by shadowing a fully trained Mechanical Estimator,” said Jacob. Once a new job comes in Jacob will review the site specification and contact various suppliers in order to obtain the best price for the materials needed. “Being good at maths comes in very handy as sometimes I have to compare terms from different suppliers.”
Jacob will undertake one year of training under the Pathways programme. “I have gained a lot of technical knowledge over the past few years and that combined with the new skills that I am learning now should really help me develop my career within the business.”
“I have only been with the company for five months but I already feel very much part of the team. Everyone is very friendly and nobody minds me asking lots of questions. I feel very comfortable here and I am really enjoying the job,” said Jacob.
A keen football fan Jacob enjoys paying for his local club, Sharnbrook at the weekends.
